We hope all members of the Society received the complimentary copy of the first published Journal with your February Journal and its content, although not as comprehensive as the Journal now, stirred some memories for you. As reported in my article for the February issue of the Journal, Debbie Lemay, one of a number of editors in its history, sadly passed away on Sunday 4th January. Her funeral was held at Parndon Wood Crematorium, Harlow, on Tuesday 10th of February and was attended by her family and friends along with representatives from the Care Home in Gt Dunmow where Debbie spent her last days. The funeral was followed by a reception at the Manor House where people were able to share stories about Debbie and her husband Brian, both staunch supporters of the Civic Society. The members of the Executive Committee send their thoughts and prayers to family members at this sad time. By the time you read this, we hope that the rain may have subsided somewhat, and the weather is warming up, ready for the Spring, with all that brings to the gardens, although some plants are already starting to sprout new growth, hopefully not premature. An early reminder to everyone that at the end of this month, the 29th, the clocks go forward 1 hour, signalling the start of British Summertime, lighter evenings and longer days. We apologise for continually repeating this message, but if you are NOT a MEMBER of the Society and buy your Journal from one of our retail outlet partners, we would remind you that Society membership is £10 per annum, which includes delivery of the Journal to your door by one of our dedicated distributors. Our grateful thanks go to these distributors.
