BCS AGM on 17th April - click here for more information. With the evenings lengthening and the days warming up a little, Spring is just around the corner and by the time you read this, the spring bulbs should either be in bloom or getting close. Easter is fast approaching and a sign of summer months coming will be the clocks going forward over the Easter weekend, 1.00am on Sunday 31st March, Easter Sunday. As you are probably aware, this coming June 6th marks the 80th anniversary of the start of the D-Day landings in Normandy. We understand that the Buntingford RBL are planning to hold some form of commemoration event on the day, and I am sure they will publish details nearer the date. The Cvic Society committee has purchased some Roses to commemorate the life and reign of the late Queen and the accession of King Charles III. These roses will be planted at the cemetery. Two members of the BCS committee along with Town Councillors, Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust and Environment Agency are part of a team putting together a plan for improvements to the River Rib from the Weir to the Luynes Rise Bridge. It is hoped these improvements will slow bank erosion. It is envisaged that part of the plan will be to improve the area between Luynes Rise and the river to become more wildlife friendly and may include a picnic area. The project is at an early stage, but you will be kept updated as the plan progresses. Just a reminder that the Civic Society AGM will be held this year on 17th April at 7.00pm in Bunters Suite at the Seth Ward Community Centre. Please make every effort to attend as our guest speaker this year will be Carol Emery from the Local History Group. As normal at the conclusion of the meeting you can join us for light refreshments. Finally, we would like to reach out to all small businesses that operate in and around the area to encourage them to take out an advert in the Journal - not everyone uses social media. Information about advertising in the Journal can be found on page A25 in the advertising section at the back of the Buntingford Journal. We are also seeking sponsorship for the 4 planters at the entrances to the town. For more information, please contact chairman@buntingfordcivic.org.uk. If you have any queries about Buntingford Civic Society or issues you would like to raise, you can email the Chairman direct at chairman@buntingfordcivic.org.uk. The April issue of the Buntingford Journal will be available from the usual retailers from 22nd March. More information about the Buntingford Civic Society can be found here and membership forms can be found here. |
